Welcome to the Red Dwarf Recordings website. The home of Alan Reed on the web.
Alan Reed is a singer and musician from Glasgow. He is probably best known as the (former) singer with progressive rock band Pallas. He has also appeared on albums by Abel Ganz, Caamora, Neo, Parzival's Eye and Strangers on a Train.
Alan is currently working on his debut solo album, 'First in a Field of One'. An EP of acoustic re-workings of songs past and present, 'Dancing with Ghosts' has just been released

'DANCING WITH GHOSTS' EP AND TOUR
Thanks to all of you who've bought the EP, and who came along to see us on our dates with Arena and Magenta. The live dates were a tremendous success - especially the debut of the expanded four-piece 'Sensational Alan Reed Experience' at The Peel and The Robin 2. Mark and I were joined by Callum McCallum on guitar and the wondrous Jennifer Clark on acoustic bass guitar and electric double bass. What a noise that beastie makes!!
Our next scheduled gig is as support Arena at the Classic Rock Society Awards show at Wath-upon-Dearne on March 3rd. But I'm enjoying it so much I'll see if we can't fit some more in somewhere :-)
'DANCING WITH GHOSTS' EP RELEASED!!!!
I've been absolutely blown away by the response to the EP. I wasn't sure what the world would make of such a left-field approach to the older material, but thus far the critics seem to have 'got it' and enjoyed it. A couple of comments as follows:
The Scotsman still has what it takes' - Malcolm Dome, Classic Rock Magazine
(Reed has) 'exorcized the ghosts of Pallas past, allowing him to move on to the fresh musical fields of his future.' - Ross Muir, Muirsifications
More reviews are in the pipeline for some of the key publications, and you may also have managed to catch some of the songs on the radio with plays in the UK, Germany, NL, Poland, Canada and the USA.

I was particularly pleased with the coverage in issue 22 of 'Classic Rock presents Prog', with a hat-trick of a full two-page feature, live review and an extremely complimentary review by Sid Smith (see left)
'Reed pulls off something that sounds remarkably epic while retaining a close intimacy with the listener'

As a first step back 'into the limelight', this has all been very encouraging, and sale are going well. I've only pressed a limited quantity, so if you haven't got a copy already, remedy the situation immediately.

Rather than administer my own webshop directly from this site, I have decided to join It Bites, Frost*, Tinyfish and others in a new venture run by Frost* merch guru Nellie Pitts. The Merch Desk is a one-stop shop providing an efficient service tailored to the needs of independently minded artists like myself. From now on this will be the place to find CDs/DVDs/T-shirts/tour socks etc etc as and when they become available.
This is the best place to buy 'Dancing with Ghosts' if you want to support me as an artist
You can also buy the 'Live at the Wesley Centre' Bootleg DVD and 'First in a Field of One' T-shirts from the merchdesk. Just click on the link to order!!

The snippet of 'Darkness has Spoken' has now been removed, and replaced with an edit of a track from the forthcoming 'Dancing with Ghosts' EP. It won't be there long, so grab it while you can. Let me know what you think. As I said before, I'll aim to change what's available on the download page on an irregular basis as the album develops towards completion.
'SHE' The Musical - UK Stageshow
I'll be reprising my role as 'Holly' in Clive Nolan's musical extravaganza, 'She' in a full-blown theatrical version of the show to be performed in February of next year. The shows will take place at The Playhouse, Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, UK on Weds 22nd to Sat 25th February of 2012.
As well as the full cast of me, Tina Booth (Magenta), Agnieszka Swita and David Clifford, this ambitious production will feature a full chorus. See the She website for details- http://www.shethemusical.com/
