Welcome to the Red Dwarf Recordings website.  The home of Alan Reed on the web.

Alan Reed is a singer and musician from Glasgow. He is probably best known as the (former) singer with progressive rock band Pallas. He has also appeared on albums by Abel Ganz, Caamora, Neo, Parzival's Eye and Strangers on a Train.

Alan is currently working on his debut solo album, 'First in a Field of One'.   An EP of acoustic re-workings of songs past and present, 'Dancing with Ghosts' has just been released

'First in a Field of One'

The album is coming along nicely.  All vocals, drums - and most of the guitars and basses - are done.  We're now in keyboard mode, where Mike replaces my ham-fisted  guide keys with  better parts and better sounds.  All being well the album should be ready to mix by the summer, and I can now confidently predict an October release.  More news on this soon.

Live Dates:

Despite being focused on finishing the album, I seem to be accumulating gigs at  a surprising rate.  Here are some confirmed dates (more details on the 'Live' page).  More to be added soon:

'C'est La Vie' - FREE DOWNLOAD!!!

For a limited time (and a limited number of downloads) only:  My contribution to the ill-fated 'Prog' magazine ELP tribute CD.  'C'est La Vie' also happens to be the first thing I recorded as a solo artist. Mike Stobbie and I recorded this over a weekend as a last-minute addition to the sampler which, sadly, never saw the light of day.  Many of the other artists involved have made their contributions available, so here's mine.  You can find it at: http://alanreed.bandcamp.com/track/thats-life

New Album - HARVEST, Chasing Time

A few months ago I was approached by the Catalan/Dutch band, Harvest to add some vocals to a song on their new album.
The result is 'Time Lapse'; a duet with the lovely Monique Van Der Kolk (who has a fabulous voice).
A certain Steve Rothery of Marillion fame has also added his guitar playing skills to the album, which is out later this month.

CRS AWARDS NIGHT

Another chance to get the four-piece 'Sensational Alan Reed Experience' out and about was the annual Classic Rock Society Awards Night in glamourous Wath-upon-Dearne.  Once again we supported the might Arena.  As it was an awards ceremony we assumed it was a black-tie do!  We didn't win anything, although I was nominated in the 'Best Vocalist' category, much to my surprise.

Congratulations to everyone who did win: Special mention to Scott Higham, who lends his prodigious skills to the forthcoming album, who won 'Best Drummer'.  Clive Nolan and Tina Booth (who I've been working with on the 'SHE' shows) won 'Best Keyboards' and 'Best Female Vocalist' respectively.  I should point out that Tina's just added some fabulous backing vocals to the album.

We were also deeply honoured to have a long chat with Steve Hackett, who was there to receive his 'Best Guitarist' Award.  Steve was kind enough to tell us how much he enjoyed our set, and particularly noted our use of two twelve-strings.  Oddly enough backstage we'd been bemoaning the difficulties of keeping the beasties in tune, and wondering how on earth Genesis had managed with up to three at a time.  Steve filled us in on the secret!!

TEAM EXPERIENCE WITH THE LEGENDARY STEVE HACKETT

While we're on the subject of awards, I was stunned to come in at number 3 in the 'Classic Rock Presents Prog' magazine awards in the 'New/Unsigned Artist' category.

It's heads down to finish the album now, but I hope to have news about some more live dates with 'The Experience' very soon!!!

'DANCING WITH GHOSTS' EP

The reviews and the radio play just keep on coming.  I'm absolutely delighted with the way so many people have taken this to their hearts.

In fact, sales are going so well that the initial pressing is in danger of running out.  So if you haven't bought it already, please do so.  It's available from
 http://www.themerchdesk.com/   (see below)

or specialist retailers such as Prog-Rock Records, Just For Kicks.de and Caerllysi Music.

You can also buy it AS A DOWNLOAD ONLY at my Bandcamp  site: http://alanreed.bandcamp.com/

It's even available on Itunes,    Amazon, Napster, Zune etc should you so desire!

Webshop

               http://www.themerchdesk.com/

Rather than administer my own webshop directly from this site, I have decided to join It Bites, Frost*, Tinyfish and others in a new venture run by Frost* merch guru Nellie Pitts.  The Merch Desk is a one-stop shop providing an efficient service tailored to the needs of independently minded artists like myself.  From now on this will be the place to find CDs/DVDs/T-shirts/tour socks etc etc as and when they become available.

This is the best place to buy 'Dancing with Ghosts' if you want to support me as an artist

You can also buy the 'Live at the Wesley Centre' Bootleg DVD and 'First in a Field of One' T-shirts from the merchdesk.  Just click on the link to order!!

The snippet of 'Darkness has Spoken'  has now been removed, and replaced with an edit of a track from the forthcoming 'Dancing with Ghosts' EP.  It won't be there long, so grab it while you can.  Let me know what you think.  As I said before, I'll aim to change what's available on the download page on an irregular basis as the album develops towards completion.
